Community Advisory Committee (CAC)

meeting

Topic: Practical Tips for Parents as we navigate the Pandemic from a mental Health and Behavioral Perspective As we return to brick & mortar learning, mental health and behavioral success of elementary and secondary students are an area of great need. Without a doubt, expectations throughout distance learning varied greatly given each family’s unique circumstances. Students have returned to “in-person” instruction demonstrating a variety of social, behavioral, and academic skills/needs at school and at home. In this interactive presentation, we will be discussing common challenges and stressors students face, practical strategies of what caregivers can do to help, and when to know to bring in more supports/resources.

kidsWhat is a Community Advisory Committee (CAC)?

A Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is made up of parents, educators, and community members who are involved in special education. The CAC of the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) provides meetings and special events throughout the year and advises the Superintendents of the 14 member School Districts about special education services. Each meeting includes information on a special education topic, resources for families, and opportunities to meet with other parents to exchange resources, information, and ideas.

Whether you are a student who qualifies for special education services, a parent or family member of a student, or a School District teacher or staff person, we can help!

CAC meetings are open to the public!

Anyone with an interest in special education is encouraged to attend, especially if your child receives special education services from one of the NCCSE School Districts.

More information on meeting times, location, agenda, as well as past meeting minutes.

What does the CAC do?

CAC advises the District on the development, amendment and review of the Local Plan for Special Education, including the following:

  • Review the Local Plan and provide ongoing input on special education services, accountability and outcomes;

  • Recommend annual priorities to be addressed in the Local Plan and encourage community involvement;

  • Provide parent education and support activities on behalf of individuals with exceptional needs;

  • Assist in the development of parent awareness and the importance of regular school attendance.

Why is it worth your time to attend CAC meetings?
